Volunteer Teams + Low-Cost Tools = Healthier Homes
Across the country, Rebuilding Together affiliates mobilize volunteers to repair the homes of seniors, veterans, and low-income families at no charge. Struck by the scope of health and safety hazards in their clients’ homes, RT turned to the National Center for Healthy Housing for a new set of tools to help identify and fix these hazards. This session will:
- Explain how our homes affect our health, which few Americans fully appreciate
- Identify many low-cost repairs to make homes healthier
- Explore how the “Healthy Housing Challenge” can catalyze broader changes to improve our housing and our health
- Highlight volunteer opportunities with Rebuilding Together for people of all skill levels
Don Ryan leads the Healthy Housing Challenge, a joint project of Rebuilding Together and NCHH. He is a board member and “house captain” for Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church and also serves on NCHH’s board.
