There’s the Nebraska-born agronomist who saved millions in Asia from starvation…the Washington travel writer who struck upon the felicitous notion of gracing the nation’s capital with flowering cherry trees…and the former slave who spied for the Union in the household of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.  These are just a few of the characters featured in Secret Heroes.  Author Paul Martin will discuss his book and history’s forgotten figures.

Paul Martin spent three decades as a book and magazine editor with the National Geographic Society, the last ten years as executive editor of National Geographic Traveler.
